The Mystery Blogger Award!

I was nominated twice by Josh Gross, quite a while ago, for this award, but put it off for a while at how daunting doing awards post are. It’s just too much work with all that talking about yourself and answering such difficult mind-boggling questions. Gosh, I’m even tired at the thought.

No, but really, I did put this award off for a while because although awards posts are fun to write, they can take a while. Talk about first world problems, huh.

Thank you Josh for the nomination! Since he nominated me twice, I’ll be answering two sets of questions from him!

“This is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates: it inspires and motivated. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging and they do it with so much love and passion.”

-Okoto Enigma (original creator of the award)

Three Things About Me

  1. I have a really good episodic memory, which basically means I remember events with rich detail. It’s a blessing and a curse. 😂
  2. I was about ten when Amy Winehouse died and I was quite sad about it, even though I wasn’t a fan and barely knew her songs, at that time. It was a deep painful feeling as if I had this weird connection to her, that broke. Whenever I listen to her music now, I feel the same feeling. It’s very strange.
  3. I’m really clumsy.

Questions and Answers

If you could take a free class on any topic, what would it be?
The intricate art of ghost busting. Or public speaking.

What is your favorite book?
Dead Ends by Erin Lange! It’s really good and she’s such an underrated author.

Do you have a specific place you like to go when you need to think? If so, where?
The toilet.

Imagine you’ve been commissioned to write any book you want. What kind of book would you write (e.g. fantasy, horror, memoir, nonfiction, etc.)?
I’m currently trying to write a book, which is a soft sci fi, with sociological themes in it.

A weird little book sneak peek

Funny/weird question: If you had to survive in one of the following inhospitable locations, which would you choose?

  • The arctic
  • The Kalahari Desert
  • The Amazon rain forest
  • Detroit

God, Detroit? You trying to kill me? I think I’d have to say The Amazon Rainforest. It would be nice to be able to say that I got suffocated to death by an anaconda.

Would you rather read a book or watch television?
As much as I love reading, watching TV requires little effort. However, right now, I am in the mood for reading.

If you had the opportunity to learn about any topic, which one would you choose?
Something Physics related, probably. I regret not taking Physics as an A level.

In a few words, what would be your ideal vacation?
I have two ideal vacations. First one: big city, night life, food. Second one: beach, pretty sunset, food. Basically…

So either get sand stuck in crevices I didn’t know I had or get trampled and crushed by bustling crowds.

Which suits you more: living in a large city or a small town? Or maybe someplace even more rural?
Large city because I’m used to that. I like small towns and rural areas but not to live in.

Weird question: If you could be any fantasy creature, which one would you choose?
I would want to be something like Cheshire Cat. You could disappear with your smile left behind in the darkness. Who wouldn’t want that? That, or some sort of morphing creature.

Mind Boggling Time Travel!

Happy Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with you.

Along the lines of sci-fi, I’m going to be talking about something I find really interesting yet mind boggling. Time travel.

“The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”

-Albert Einstein

I’m not a physics students but time travel is a concept that I could go on and on about for ages. I actually had a conversation today with two good friends about something I’ve always wondered:

We are currently travelling slower than the speed of light, as humans, and also moving forward into the future. Theoretically, if you were to travel at the speed of light (ignore the fact that collisions of atoms would cause a burst of gamma rays yada yada yada) everything would be ‘frozen’ around you because you are moving at the same speed as the speed you can see things so basically, you’re literally living in the present…but for a really long time. With all this in mind, if you were to, theoretically, travel faster than the speed of light, wouldn’t you be moving back in time.

Slower than speed of light = moving forward into the future

Speed of light = frozen in time

Faster than speed of light = moving backwards into the past?

To support this, at night, there are stars. (No shit, Sherlock). But some of those stars are already dead yet we can still see them. That’s because the light that star emitted is still travelling towards us, even at the amazing speed of light (299,792,458 m/s) so we’re basically seeing something that existed in the past. The sunlight that hit us from the sun is actually 8 minutes and 20 seconds old so we’re seeing something that was emitted several minutes in the past.

If we were to travel 65 million light years away from Earth (and if we had an extraordinary mega telescope) we could see the dinosaurs that existed on our planet.

Another question that boggles my mind is whether time is fixed or flexible.

In the film Déjà Vu, the main character goes back in time to try to change the course of the timeline to prevent something bad from happening. However, by trying to prevent it from happening, he actually causes the events that happened in the lead up to the bad things. As an example, the main character, who is an agent, goes to the house of a victim to murder. A group of forensic scientists tell him that he was reckless and put his fingerprints everywhere when he was searching around the house, even though he definitely put gloves on. The reason to this is because he travelled back into the past, later on in the film, and went to the girl’s house before she had even died.

Even though it’s a film, this could be a potential theory on the flexibility of time.

Another very similar question is whether time is linear or cyclic/non-linear…which was also touched on in that fingerprint scenario in Déjà Vu.

Does the past strictly affect only the future or can the future affect the past too?

I found this extract from Big Picture Questions, which basically explains it better than I could:

Tom Minderle explained that linear time means moving from the past into the future in a straight line, like dominoes knocking over dominoes. There is a sequence that moves in one direction. Humans think we can’t change the past or visit it, because we live according to linear time.

Nonlinear time works like this: “Imagine if you could slow down time. Or time travel to the past. Or position yourself above the line and view the past, present, and future simultaneously.” He explained:

  • It isn’t just one line, but a whole web of lines, all interconnected and branching with different pasts leading to different presents and different futures.
  • You can choose which alternate present to enter into. The future and past are not different than the left and right end of a table, which exist simultaneously. But whichever end you look at is the end you see.

The most widely accepted idea is that time is linear. But that could just be our minds way of condensing information and the complexity of the concept of time.

What do you think?

The Reason for the Award

This Award is to acknowledge all the amazing bloggers out there and give some happiness and laughter to their reader. It was originally created by the fabulous Maggie.

The Questions and My Answers

  1. Do you wear make-up? Why?
Yes I do: usually I just fill in my eyebrows just a little and then wear very subtle orange eyeshadow. I do it because a)I like the look of it b)the orange eyeshadow makes me look not dead and c)I’ve gotten into habit of doing it now. I also curl my eyelashes because I like my eyelashes touching my eyebrows XD but I hate having to deal with mascara.
  2. What would you eat if you had to eat it for the rest of your life?
Potatoes. I love potatoes. Mashed. Fried. Baked. Boiled. Fermented?
  3. If you were stuck on a stranded island, what 3 things would you want to have with you?
This is a terrible question for me. I feel like I should give a smart answer with some sort of scientific explanation for justification but I also just want to say my laptop, Nutella and tea tree oil (for the spots that come after I eat the Nutella).
  4. What scent of candles do you like the most?

    pretty much wine mom culture

I like sweet and fruity smells. I also like ‘autumny’ smells like pumpkin and cinnamon. I have this candle that smells like wine a bit, which I kind of like too even though I don’t drink…
Saying that kind of makes me feel like those mums who chill at home with jeans and a glass of red wine, or a whole bottle, in hand while lowkey drunk as their children are telling them to stop.

  5. If you could go to any place in the world, where would you go?
Japan! I really want to go there. Or an exotic island like The Solomon Islands.
  6. What’s one thing that you love about your blog?
I like that it’s personalised to me: it has my favourite colours and the setup is how I like it. And also everything I post is what I want to post and what I want to see on my blog. Basically, I like that it’s very ‘me’.
  7. What is your favourite piece of clothing?
My yellow raincoat. Or hats even though they make me break out.
  8. What is your favourite flower?
    Lilies. 🌺
  9. Do you know what quokkas are? What are your opinions on them?
I’m going to be honest here. I had to google it because I was curious but I actually know what they are, I just didn’t know they were called quokkas. I think they’re adorable and I just wanna give them a hug even though they’d probably try to fight me. I’ve been attacked by many animals before so I can smile through the pain.
  10. What is your mood right now?
I feel happy, disappointed, calm and tense at the same time. That’s what the education system does to you. 🙂

11 Facts About Me

  1. In this moment in time, I think I’m the only person and most definitely the only Marvel fan, who has not seen Black Panther. (YET!)
  2. Sometimes, when I look at something or someone for a while, things start to become really warped; things will look really big or really small and I can’t stop it. I used to get it a lot at parent’s evening when you’d have to sit face to face with teachers, which is awwwkward.
  3. I currently work in retail as a sales assistant, in a clothes store.
  4.  I wear a yellow coat everywhere and a lot of people call me Georgie from It and Paddington.
  5. I really want to voice a cartoon character one day. (Weird ambition, I know. XD )
  6. My favourite animal are wolves.
  7. I once accidentally ended up on set of Les Misérables (2012) while it was being filmed!
  8. 2017, despite the negativity in the world, was the best year of my life.
  9. I’m currently studying at sixth form, doing Biology, Chemistry and Psychology.
  10. My favourite video game is Overwatch.
  11. I used to watch Power Rangers in secret when I was younger because I didn’t want my mum to say I was a boy (she said it once as a joke but I was sensitive).

Starr’s Questions and My Answers

  1. Who or what inspired you to start blogging?
-I don’t remember exactly but what I do remember is reading Girl Online and realising that blogging was a cool hobby and I was interested in pursuing it again (I had a previous blog which I deleted). It was also the beginning of the year and I wanted to do something fun because I tend to get bored and depressed during the first months.
  2. Have your blogging goals ever changed? How?
-Probably. My intention when I first started blogging was to have fun and get better at writing and meet bloggers and although I still love meeting new bloggers and obviously still want to have fun with writing posts, my main goal is to spread awareness and share things I love and use WordPress as a platform to speak out, I guess.
  3. Movies or books?
I hate to say this but, I haven’t read in a long time. I’ve read a few pages every now and again but I’ve been really busy. I’m going to have to go with movies. (I also did Media Studies and now appreciate film production a bit more.)
  4. Tea or coffee?
  5. Has blogging changed you in any way, or does it help you in any way? If yes, how?
When I write informative posts (e.g. about feminism) I do a lot of research and even if I don’t include it into the posts, I still learn a lot and it makes me more educated on a particular topic and also a lot more open minded. And when I research new stuff, I tend to tell my friends, so I guess it’s helped me and others. 🙂
  6. What are your two favourite bloggers?
    I CAN’T PICK!!
  7. What’s your favourite TV Show?
More like, what isn’t my favourite TV Show. For someone who’s “always busy”, I watch a lot of shows. But I have to say The Flash or Stranger Things.
  8. Are you a football (or soccer) fan? If yes, what team do you belong to?
    I am not a fan.
  9. What are the things that make you feel happy about being you?
I like that I’m hardworking. I make a lot of lazy jokes about myself but I actually work, study, and focus on other projects I’m passionate about all the time. And even though it may sound vain, I like that I make people laugh. It makes me happy that I make other people happy (it’s like a selfish selfless things XD ).
  10. What are the things that make you sad about being you?
I can be very self-conscious at times. I’m a little self conscious about my appearance.
  11. What do you aspire to become in the future?
I really want to work in a lab as possibly a biochemist or work in another biological/biomedical science. I also want to publish a novel in the future.

Who Came Up With The Idea…?

I went out the other day with my dad and sister and we went to this really cute waffle place for lunch. My dad had ordered a breakfast waffle, despite the time of day, and I sat in my seat, daydreaming off into space, as I do, and once I had been brought back to reality, I found myself staring at an egg. Just an egg frying.

And I wondered. Who decided it would be a good idea to get this white oval thing, that came out of a chicken’s butt, crack it and eat it?

So I did my research and realised that back in the day, humans used to hunt for their food and tasted everything that didn’t smell disgusting or dangerous. And the discovery that eggs were edible probably emerged very early on in the timeline of human existence. As well as this, other mammals ate eggs too (and of course, still do).

It got me thinking about the other origin of ideas that seem very strange or very smart and so I’m going to compile a list of them without doing any research on it (for now):

Initially Strange Ideas:

  • The initial idea to pull crackers on Christmas (I know there’s usually a little note with info on it but I honestly forgot what it says.)
  • The decision to keep and look after animals in your own house
  • First suggestion to make a wish on a shooting star
  • First person to burn leaves and smoke it
  • The decision to use fungus to make alcoholic drinks from grains and fruits
  • The beginning of the myth the moon is made of cheese
  • The decision to use paper as an exchange for items and products
  • The idea that ribbed flared trousers look good XD
  • The realisation of death (I know this sounds stupid but I mean like realising they’re not asleep, etc. Makes sense in my head.)
  • The concept that ties make you look sophisticated
  • The initial idea that an extremely skinny waist is attractive and desired
  • Crocs
  • The idea that dark colours are ‘depressing’
  • The idea that white symbolizes ‘purity’ and ‘innocence’
  • The idea of phones and communication via satellites (I feel like I’ve already learnt this at school…)
  • Idea of slime
  • The idea that black skin and darker skins, generally, were inferior to light skin even though continents like Africa had more resources
  • The idea women were inferior to men even though women literally shoot out other humans
  • Beginning of modern oral languages
  • The first ever religion
  • First idea to shave hair off our bodies
  • My sister says: Idea of the shape of a love heart (I actually know this one but thought it might be something other people might question)
  • Who came up with the actual concept of time
  • The initial idea of memes and the first ever meme
  • First person to decide/create ‘bad/forbidden words’
  • The initial idea of the tooth fairy

Feel free to answer any of them, even if some of them are obvious and just me being stupid. XD

Also, comment your own initially strange ideas like the eating eggs one and I could make a part two.

The Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award!

sisterhood blogging award

I was nominated by Miss Twisted Sense of Humour! Her blog is amazing! She’s funny, relatable and she’s just started out blogging so go and say hi and read her cool posts! Do it!!!

  1. Thank the nominator and link their blog to your post.
  2. Answer the 10 questions given to you.
  3. Pass the award on to as many bloggers as you went and let them know.
  4. Include the logo of the award in a post or on your blog.

  1. A unique quality of yours?
A unique quality of mine would probably be my weird sense of humour. I don’t know. It’s not funny to some people but it’s funny to me. XD
  2. What’s your jam?
Hmm…I don’t actually know. I’ve been listening to Fireflies by Owl City a lot XD and I’ve been listening to Selena Gomez’s song again. I used to be obsessed with them and I guess that obsession is coming back. XD
  3. What are your views on alcohol? What is your preferred alcohol and why?
First off, I don’t drink alcohol. I’ve tried it before (like sips of it) and it tasted horrible, in my opinion. I don’t see why people can get addicted. XD
  4. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say ‘femenism’?
I think of Emma Watson’s speech to begin with and then I think of back in the past, when women were treated badly. I think feminism is a strong topic, that I support, but can sometimes be over exaggerated.
  5. One character in a book/movie who you connect with?
I feel like I relate to Tris Prior from Divergent a lot because she is quite a relatable character for teenage girls, I think. Another one I think is relatable is Clary Fray from The Mortal Instruments series. Of course, I’m not a Shadowhunter and my mum isn’t a secret Shadowhunter who paints for a living but Clary’s hobbies and qualities are pretty relatable, to me.
  6. Do you have any regrets? If so what is it?
I probably do…but I can’t think of it right now. But the thing is, I read a quote that said, “It’s better to look back and say, ‘I can’t believe I did that’ than to look back and say, ‘I wish I did that.’ So I don’t think I regret much. Apart from all the embarrassing things I’ve done.
  7. Stupidest thing you’ve ever done?
I’ve done a lot of stupid things. One of which was drink as many cups of coke as you can at a party, which lead to an hour of struggling to breathe. It was scary and stupid. XD I can’t drink fizzy drinks anymore or it’ll happen again. Even if it’s just a cup. :c
  8. One person you would die to meet?
This is such a hard question! I mean I would love to meet Nat Wolff 😉 but also, Lily Collins and Emily Kinney and John Green and there’s so many people. But I think I would love to meet LDShadowLady! 😀
  9. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you be? And don’t say home!
Somewhere in the USA like Pennsylvania. Somewhere not to hot but not to cold. 🙂
  10. What do you think about me? 😀 Please be honest!
Honestly, I think you are funny, another version of me, and a potential writer!

Questions To Nominees:

  1. Who is a female figure, you look up to?
  2. A movie that seems like a representation of your life?
  3. Current favourite song?
  4. Something you’re bad at and want to get good at?
  5. Meaning behind your URL?
  6. The meanest thing someone has ever said to you?
  7. The nicest thing someone has ever said to you?
  8. Your opinion on feminism?
  9. What quality do you like in a person?
  10. Favourite accent?

The Liebster Award! #1

liebster award

Hello everybody!

I was supposed to post this two days ago but unexpectedly, I was at my cousin’s house from the morning on Thursday to evening on Friday and I was quite tired. So I’ll be doing it today. I was nominated for another award, The Liebster Award!

What is The Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is a lovely way to meet new blogs and find out new bloggers and facts about them. You have to answer eleven questions about yourself so that other people can get to know you.

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you
  2. Answer the questions given to you
  3. Nominate deserving bloggers for the award and let them know you’ve nominated them
  4. Make 11 questions for your nominees to answer

I was nominated by the amazing Rhea Reads Words and her blog is another blog I really like! She blogs about lots of different things so it’s definitely worth a look at and even a follow!

Here are the questions Rhea gave us:

  1. What is your most vivid memory?
My most vivid memory is probably the times I used to spend with my closest cousin. We used to hang out almost everyday and I can remember quite a lot of them. However, I don’t remember the time where she called the police and made me speak. I was like two.
  2. What is the thing you are most self-conscious about?
I am most self conscious about my appearance. I have no worries about my personality apart from the fact that I’m not the kindest of people. My appearance has always made me self-conscious and I don’t think that’s going to ever change. No matter what I do, I just can’t make myself happy about what I look like so I just have to get used to it and shove it aside. 🙂
  3. What is the thing you are most confident about?
I am most confident about what I am like. My personality. The hobbies I do. I’m not ashamed at all by my personality…I think…
  4. What are your dreams and aspirations?
My dreams and aspirations include becoming a novelist. I’ve always wanted to be an author, since I was like five/six. I also would LOVE to travel. I’ve always wanted to travel. I love going on planes and acknowledging new countries and their cultures.
  5. What makes you happy?
My cousins make me happy! I have about 20 cousins, that’s including my blood-related cousins’ partners because they act like they’re my cousins, too. The age range is so varied, from 9 to around 50 but we all act like we’re the same age, apart from the fact some are married…with toddlers. But they make me happy because they always try and make you understand that GCSEs and A levels shouldn’t be stressful and life will go on even if you do badly. They always tell me that you shouldn’t over work yourself and it’s not the most important event in your life.
  6. What makes you sad?
Going to school on a grey day in September. It’s just so depressing and school’s already hard as it is so on a grey day, I just can’t be motivated to be excited. I also don’t like September because you just come out of Summer holidays…but it’s close to my birthday. 😀
  7. What is the emotion you feel the most?
I don’t know. I don’t usually have one emotion that stays for a long time. Usually, it changes. Depends on the day, I guess.
  8. Early bird or night owl?
For sure, I’m a night owl. I can stay up all night. I love the night time. I feel so much more free and comfortable and productive. I do wake up early on a lot of days but that’s only because I have to. I’m nothing like one of my cousins, who wakes up at 5 am everyday, no matter what time he goes to bed.
  9. What would your description on a dating website say?
Firstly, I would never go on a dating site but if I had to….I actually can’t think of something I would put. I’m too young to think about this. D:
  10. Do you like to dance?
Yeah, I guess. Maybe not in big crowds, unless I’m close to the people around me. I used to love dancing! I don’t love it as much, anymore, but it’s a fun thing to do!
  11. Cats or Dogs?
    Hmm…let me think…CATS!!!!

I hope I answered those questions well… 🙂

Here are the people I’m nominating:

So what is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

This award is a creative way of getting bloggers to meet new blogs.

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.

  3. Nominate eleven other blogs and give them eleven questions.

tmmusic32’s Questions:

  1. What are your favourite characteristics about yourself?
My favourite characteristics about myself would have to be my sense of humour and probably my sarcasm because even though, sometimes, it can be annoying, it just amuses me. I also like the length of my hair now. So much easier to handle and it looks better, I hope.
  2. If you were allowed to bring 3 items on a deserted island, what would they be?
I would bring a mirror or glasses for promoting a fire, strawberries because not only would they fill me up but they also will hydrate me. But strawberries wouldn’t count as one item…they would count as loads. If so, I would bring a whole watermelon. I would bring a tent, or some sort of shelter, too.
  3. Who is your favourite musical artist?
Emily Kinney because I love her voice and she writes all her songs, I’m pretty sure.
  4. Favourite food?
My favourite food is a hard question to answer. I don’t think I have one but I do love my chocolate and I love pizza so I’ll say that for now. 🙂
  5. Most embarrassing moment you’ve ever experienced?
My most embarrassing moment is probably when our class had to do Drama as a lesson and the teacher made us re-enact scenes from Hamlet in front of one of the most judgmental classes in our year and she made me do two scenes! The first went pretty well but the second one, I jumbled the words up because the language used is Shakespeare’s writing is difficult to say. Because I was so embarrassed by how wrong I said all of it, I just stood there and the rest of the group were annoyed and kept telling me to carry on but I just stood there, awkwardly.  I cringe every time I remember that.
  6. If you could do one thing successfully, what would you do?
Does life count? I would probably like to be able to do a flip on a skateboard because riding one is pretty easy. Learning tricks, however, is hard and I don’t think I’m quite there yet!
  7. How did you meet your best friend?
I chose wrong friends at the beginning of my secondary school life. Well, one of them was a wrong pick. She was bossy and would talk about people behind their backs. There was this one girl, I’ve mentioned her before and I coded her Salmon, ( XD ) and she would go to all the girl groups in our class, trying to make friends with all of them. She eventually hung out with all of us so much that we all kind of joined together and became a group of nine. Then, Salmon left and we never heard of her again. I’m not kidding. And we became eight and then two other joined so we are ten now and I’m pretty sure we’re going to become eleven. I’m only really close with eight of them, though. I know that doesn’t really answer how did you meet your best friend but I’m really close with my friends so I’ll include them all. XD
  8. Do you ever want to get tattoos and pierces? If so where and of what?
I don’t want to get any tattoos or anymore piercings (my ears are pierced already but I’m pretty sure they’ve healed). If I did get a tattoo, though, I have no idea what I would get it of. XD
  9. Have you ever been to a concert? If so who’s and was it good?
    Ummm….I’ve never been to a concert. I know…I’m a weirdo…
  10. If you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do for the next 24 hours?
I would go bungee jumping or scuba diving or something crazy and fun but I would also like to spend time with my whole family and all my friends!
  11. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I’d always wanted a journal, which I could write my thoughts in…my deep, dark thoughts and express things I love but I was too lazy for that and it took me a long while to ever think of writing it all on a blog and when I did, I felt so at peace with myself. Thoughts, worries and my passions could just become a part of this blog and it made me feel so free and fulfilled!
