Does Anything Really Exist?

You’re reading this post right now, whether that be through the ability of your eyes or ears or any sensory cell in your body. You’re reading this, right at this very moment. Right?

Now, you might be thinking, Shay, what’s up with you? It’s not even 4:20.

Well, young child (or old), be prepared to start thinking as if it is 4:20.

In our day to day lives, we touch, hear, smell, see, think, talk, move, etc. That’s how we know we exist. We acknowledge the world functioning around us and the people we meet and the places we go and we input all that information in through our sensory cells, which basically explain to your brain what’s going on in the outside world, while it’s cooped up inside your skull. It’s as if your brain is living vicariously through you…but also, functioning and supplying you with the necessities to live.

And we trust our brains to process what is going on because it’s all we really know, since the day we were born. Now, take away that trust.

How do we know what our brain is processing and telling us is actually happening?

How do you know we’re not just hooked up to a machine and 4D videos aren’t being inputted into our brains to make it seem like we’re living in this fake world, where we can feel things and see things? How do you know your thoughts are even yours?

How do you know if we’re not just in a some kind of dream? Or a simulation?

Is seeing really believing?

Rubber Arm Experiment

Take the Rubber Arm Experiment, as an example. People were convinced that the rubber arm in front of them was really their arm, with just a few minutes of illusion.

An experiment by Shaw and Porter of the University of British Columbia in Canada found that when they had three interviews with a group of participants, telling and asking them of one false memory (either a crime they did or an emotional event like injury) as well as telling them about two true memories, that were personal to the participants, 71% of those 30 student participants developed a false memory of the crime and 76.6% of another 30 students formed a false memory of the emotional event.

These students were convinced, in quick time, of inaccurate and false criminal and emotional events that occurred in their lives, which never even happened.

So how do we really know that what’s happened in our lives is real? It could all just be one big lie!

Maybe you’re real…but how do you know that everybody else is? You can’t see what they’re really thinking or their functioning brain.

Morty Lefkoe wrote a post similar to this and asked readers to imagine their hand expanding and expanding until there was nothing in the universe except the hand. He stated:

it would disappear because there would be nothing in the universe that was not the hand. This is a very basic concept about reality: In order for any thing to exist, there must also be not that thing. In order for anything to exist, it must be distinguished from everything else. If no distinction is made between a specific thing and everything else, there is only an undifferentiated everything—which is another way of saying nothing. Everything, without any distinctions, is the same as nothing.”

If I lost you there, I’m not surprised. I was a bit lost too. But to basically put it in simple terms, imagine the air. We sometimes refer to the air as nothing because there’s “nothing” there, when actually, there are millions and millions of particles and elements milling around. And they’re not just the same element – they’re different. But we can’t see that difference, we can’t see that distinction so to us, it’s just a big collective thing known as air, which is a huge thing since air is pretty much everywhere so we consider it to be nothing. Think of the phrase “vanish into nothingness”. It’s not really nothingness, though.

Therefore, what really does the word ‘exist’ mean? That’s the real question.

Because with what Morty Lefkoe explained, if everything exists, nothing really does.

At the end of the day, no matter what your opinion is and whatever this crazy world really is and whether or not we are real or not, this is our reality and our only reality. So deal with it.

Can The Simpsons Predict the Future?

Animated comedy, The Simpsons, has been notable for supposedly predicting future events. From Trump winning the election to 13 Reasons Why to the government spying on us, the brilliant creators and writers of the loveable show continue to astound us with their predictive tendencies and potential crystal ball.

In 2000, The Simpsons managed to ‘predict’ Donald Trump winning the presidential election.

The episode, Bart to the Future, was the second time The Simpsons was set in the future, featuring Lisa as the president of the United States. In 2003, it was actually named the worst episode of the series by Entertainment Weekly, but little did they know what the episode would mean for the future. The episode was an uncannily accurate depiction of reality. Details as small as the way Tump waved, going down the escalator, and the electoral map,  mirrored exactly the truth.

Dan Greaney, the writer of the episode, stated that it “just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane.”

At the time, the idea of Trump being the leader of the free world was absurd and insane, and was therefore funny. But that laughter has greatly backfired. Matt Groening, the show’s creator said, ‘Back in 2000, Trump was, of course, the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time and that’s still true. It’s beyond satire.”

Coincidences happen all the time but is this a coincidence?

An episode in 1997 entitled, The City of New York vs Homer Simpson, was another great example of a ‘possible, accidental’ prediction. There was a frame, which included a brochure with $9 on it as well as the twin towers in the background, appearing to look like the figures 11. It seemed to act as an almost warning or hint to the 9/11 World Trade Centre Attacks in 2001.

Bill Oakley, an executive producer, said “$9 was picked as a comically cheap fare and I will grant that it’s eerie, given that it’s the only episode of any series ever that had an entire act of World Trade Centre jokes.”

During the episode, in 1998, When You Dish Upon A Star, there’s a sign appearing to read ’20th Century Fox, a Division of Walt Disney Co.’ This ‘prediction’ was yet another moment on the show to come true as it was revealed, in 2017, that Disney announced a $52.4 billion deal to buy most of 21st Century Fox’s assets, including X-Men and the Home Alone series. It was said that “it seemed logical” to put into the show as “there’s always mergers”.
In The Simpsons film (2017), the well known yellow family were forced to go into hiding after their escape from the EPA biodome. The NSA managed to locate Marge and the kids by listening on their conversation. Since then, there has been a massive blow up on the government’s surveillance (and spying) through phones and internet records, particularly in America. Edward Snowden, former CIA employee, came out as the Guardian’s source for its multiple leaks on the NSA and cyber-surveillance.
There’s a lot under this umbrella of the government watching us through technology and big companies like Google and Apple, which stems from much more than The Simpsons predicting it. And I’ll probably get into that in another future post.
As well as these big modern events, The Simpsons have been notorious for predicting TV shows and films. Although they’re not as mind blowing as the previous ‘predictions’, they are a quite funny and does make you think a little.
For example, here we have an almost exact replica of a scene from La La Land.
And The Dark Knight by my favourite, Christopher Nolan.

Obviously here’s 13 Reasons Why. What else would he be listening to?

Of course, I can’t forget Stranger Things.

And last but not least, and my favourite one out of all of them, 127 Hours.

Whether or not the team behind the scenes of The Simpsons are psychic or it is all just pure mathematical coincidences, maybe we should start watching The Simpsons as a way to prevent future catastrophes…

But the real question is: does The Simpsons predict the future or does it cause the future?

P.S. Happy Easter!

The Lucifer Project?

So I took a long trip over to my good friend, Google, and I was basically searching for some cool conspiracy theories, that will make me question my existence and leave me having an existential crisis…

Anyways, I came across loads, including that WW2 was staged by the illuminati and that Baraka Obama has been to Mars but I mean….we don’t have to go into too much detail on that…

Lucifer ProjectBut I also came across The Lucifer Project!

If you don’t know, it was this thing in science fiction that aliens used cold technology to turn Jupiter into another sun. Well…

Apparently, humans are trying to do this to make the moons around it warm enough for intelligent alien life to live on or for us to live on.

I mean it kind of sounds like that’s only possible in science fiction, right?

However, theorists have said that NASA have already put this plan into effect and will continue to do so until they succeed.

Here’s a small part of what I read (partly because I’m too lazy and stupid to put into my own words):

The probes sent into space often use a radioactive compound called plutonium-238 for fuel, because hardly anything else works well for a sustained mission in space. We had a probe crash on Jupiter a few years back to protect Jupiter’s moons from exposure to any diseases that might be contained on the probe. Conspiracy theorists believe that this was not just to protect the moons of Jupiter—which they believe we are trying to colonize—but also to test whether we can use the radioactive payload to turn Jupiter into a star and implement the Lucifer Project.

Hmm…it’s starting to sound a little bit more realistic!

Do you believe in this and if you do, please tell me your interpretation on this or what you think!

Go on an adventure.

I’m Actually Going Crazy…

Despite the title, I have literally convinced myself that everything you’re about to read (if you’re bothered to read it all) is true!

I made a post, not long ago, about how the world and everything that happens only happens for the sake of my own life. And how everything that happens was planned. So whoever you’re going to marry is planned, the way you’ll die is planned, even the smallest of things like you forgetting homework is planned! Basically, like The Truman Show!

We also talked about this in my religious studies/philosophy and theology class! There’s this boy, who also thinks that this could be real. BUT what if he’s only saying that so that I don’t think its true. IT WAS PLANNED!

What if everything happens to affect me and my life. That sounds really selfish but what I mean is what if nothing is real. This is too hard to explain! 😦

I’m starting to think this is true! What if the people you’re friends with are only your friends because it was planned to make an specific affect on your life!

I might sound crazy but this is actually a theory I have, which is actually freaking me out. I’ve freakingoutliterally been shaking in my chair for the past ten minutes. I mean I’ve always had this thought but it’s only now that I realise that it could actually be true!

And the strange this is, just as I had that freaked out feeling about ten minutes ago, moments in my life started actually flashing before my eyes. (Yep, I sound crazy, alright!) Every moment in my life which is a backup/proof for my thought just flashed through my mind.

What if coincidences and relatable moments is proof to this!

I literally feel like shutting myself in the darkest corner right now, where no one will be able to find me. BUT what if this moment was planned too. What if me finding out about the ‘truth’ was supposed to happen.

What if life is just a dream? D: Then what are the dreams I have at night. Dreams within dream? (The moment when you realise you’ve watched Inception too much!)

I’m sorry! I’m very sorry if this is annoying and weird and mental. But it’s just freaking me out. So I decided to post it. XD

I think I’m just thinking to much! Yep…we’ll go with that! Also, just to clarify (I love that word) I don’t mean the world revolves around me, as if I’m the centre of attention. XD It’s just a theory I have, that could apply to anybody!

But please do comment if you know what I mean, so I can ensure myself I’m not crazy! Or comment your own opinion and CRAZY thoughts!

The Future!

Yesterday was the 21st of October 2015, the day that Marty McFly and Doc Brown travelled to, in the future, in Back To The Future, in 1989! I couldn’t post yesterday because I had maths revision and art homework, which took me billions of years to finish. o_O

back to the futureI find it amazing that they thought that in 2015, there would be hover boards, flying cars, motorways in the sky, etc, when none of that exists or at least isn’t a ‘big thing’.

I thought it would be a great chance to write down the things that I think might happen in the future! 😀

  • By 2020-2030, cancer will be cured!
  • There will be people living on Mars by 2040. (I know they’re going in 2026 but just to make sure. XD)
  • We will be able to transfer information from a computer into our own brains. (It’s crazy but I can imagine it happening late in the future.)
  • Inception will be possible in the future. Self inception is so Inception has potential.
  • We’ll experience a lot of natural disasters. (Come on! I’m not be pessimistic, I’m being logical!)
  • However, solar panels and/or wind power is going to be very common.
  • A lot of technology will be incorporated into school life.
  • The Amur Leopard will become extinct very soon. There’s only around 30 left in the world. 😦
  • By 2030, many rhinos will probably be extinct.
  • There will be 9 billion people before or around 2040. (Scientific and Geographical prediction from past population increases.)
  • Robots will come to exist. XD
  • Discrimination will decline, quickly.

So there’s some of my little predictions. Feel free to comment your own.

Within our Universe!

So we live on Earth. You already knew that… I hope.

Earth is within the Solar System.

The Solar System is in the Milky Way, which is the name of our galaxy.

Our solar system is literally a dot in comparison to how big our galaxy is.

There are galaxies that make the Milky Way look like a dot, such as IC 1011, which is the name of another galaxy, which is 6,000,000 light years wide! Considering that our galaxy is already huge, imagine what could be inside IC 1011!

And I cannot believe for a second that in our whole universe, with all these huge galaxies, all these solar systems, and all these planets and stars, that we are the only living creatures inside it all.

There is actually proof that there are parallel universes. So as I am writing this post and as you are reading it, there are many versions of ourselves doing the exact same thing but in the parallel universe. It would take me too long to go through the scientific evidence and mainstream theories of parallel universes but you can click here to look at an article about it.

In addition to this, there are a lot of conspiracy theories that state parallel universes exist. For example, the Berenstein bears. Or should I say Berenstain bears. There are so many people who remembered it with an E in not an A. Some believe that a parallel universe travelled through our own universe and there was a slight glitch, I guess you could say, and it changed the spelling. It’s a crazy idea, I know. XD This is actually called the Mandela Effect. It strangely makes sense, though, and there is a huge amount of people, who agree with this.

Black holes could be like tunnels into the different universes.

To what extent do you agree with this idea/theory?

I know I used to post a lot of deep sided posts and scientific, extravagant ideas like this and then I kind of stopped because my head is so full of them, that it’s just so hard to put into words. But, I think I might start doing that again because I love reading things like that and I know for sure I am not to only one! 🙂

Life Revolves Around Yourself?

Imagine if nobody had a free will. Everybody had to do things so that it revolved around your own life.

If you’ve watched The Truman Show, you’d get what I mean. truman show

This is a thought, I’ve thought about a lot and I don’t believe it’s true but thought it would be great to post on here.

It’s very hard to explain but what I’m trying to say is imagine if YOU are the only real person on earth. Everything and everyone is just playing around to benefit or effect your life. Coincidences could be little signs of that. “It’s a small world” could be a sign for that.

The person you’re going to marry could be planning their way to get you to marry them. Your friends might be hard to deal with to make your life more dramatic.

You either think I’m crazy or this actually make sense and is the slightest bit interesting. Either way, I hope you know what I’m getting at.

Once again, I don’t believe it myself but who knows, anything is possible!

Sorry this is a short post! I couldn’t really elaborate on this idea, without making it sound  mental.

I’m not mentally insane. (Well, I haven’t really been checked up so who knows?)

More Theories!

More theories….

So it’s Laura Ingalls Wilder’s 148th Birthday today!!! When I was about ten and all the kids were watching Adventure Time and Disney Channel, I was playing it old school and was watching Little House On The Prairie! Yeah…I was a weird kid. Eventually I got back into reality and became obsessed with Disney Channel so that’s where my life got messed up! XD

Anyways, I have another theory!
I was in my physics lesson, yesterday and my teacher was talking about how we’ll never be able to find the centre of the universe because it’s expanding and it all looks the same. She demonstrated with the room and said imagine there is an ant walking around the room. The ant will see all the tables and will go around it, like with planets. Because it’s so small, it won’t know where the centre of the room is, even if we know, because to him (yes, the ant will be a boy) it looks the same.

That got me thinking! image

What if there is something bigger than us, a whole other species watching over us? Like we were with the ant. What if they know where the centre of the universe is? There’s not much logic but it could be slightly possible. Maybe. Maybe the universe is like a sea. It’s just a small section of the other specie’s world. To them, we could be sea creatures. Of course, they would probably call it something else. We could even be their bacteria! Maybe we’re that small!

I have so many theories floating around in my head and I just don’t know which one to express in this post right now!!! Argh!!!

What if a black hole sucked in the whole universe? What would be left?

Just black?

Why do I have deep thoughts all the time?

I’m sorry! You’re either really bored or really intrigued or really annoyed because I might sound stupid…

But it can’t be that stupid because they’re just theories! 🙂

You can re-blog this if you want and write in your own thoughts because I really love hearing people’s theories!!! Like, I seriously do!

Since a few of the past posts have been slightly scientific, psychological and philosophical, I thought…why shove that vibe out the way, when we can write another post like the others! And because of how geeky I can be, I’m OBSESSED with Space and planets and I thought this post might be quite interesting to some of you, maybe enough for you to post your own opinion so I can see what your thoughts are towards this subject!

Warning: The following content may explode your mind with thoughts or kill you from boredom. Read at your own risk.

You thought our sun – The Sun – was big (not the newspaper), well rethink that. Firstly, however, before I hop into anything, I’m going to state the facts:

The Sun is a mighty 1.4 million km across (870,000 miles). The Sun accounts for 99.9% of all the matter in our Solar System. In fact, you could fit one million planet Earths inside the Sun.

Yeah, well…

VY Canis Majoris (it means greater dog in Latin) is actually the largest star known to man kind, in the Universe!

This red hypergiant star is by far the largest known. It has an estimated radius between 1800 and 2100 times the radius of our Sun. With this size it would reach nearly to the orbit of Saturn if placed in our solar system. The star is located roughly 4,900 light-years from Earth in the constellation Canis Majoris, where Sirius, the brightest star known, is situated.

Imagine if it exploded, which will happen.

That would cause such a HUGE devastation to Earth.

Sounds cool now until it actually happens and there’s absolutely no escape…

Another thing that I thought was quite cool was that there are at least a billion galaxies in the Universe, which includes ours. You might not agree with me on this because it isn’t factual but I just find it really cool and mysterious! Out of all the galaxies, a whole billion of them (plus) might I add, there has to be at least one other galaxy with a planet that contains life. We can’t be the only planet with life on it! Say Kepler, the planet they just discovered that holds water and resouces that could contain life. There’s hope there, right? But what I find weird is, what if the life on the planet doesn’t need water to live. What if it’s only us. We’re talking about a whole other planet’s life form, not an Earth’s animal species. But I wouldn’t know…maybe I’m just being stupid…

But still… 🙂

And did you know that tides only occur because the magnetic field around earth and the moon tug?

I’m getting way to excited with this!

I need to stop…

Have you ever had thoughts like these? Have you ever seen a shooting star or an eclipse?

By the way, the next solar eclipse, which will be a Total Eclipse, is on March 20th 2015, visible in Iceland, Europe, North Africa and Northern Asia so keep an eye out for it!!!
